SCHOOL IS OUT! HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!
5/30/12
Wow! We are down to our last few days here at school! I can't believe how quickly this school year has flown by....time flies when you're having fun! :)
Open House last Thursday was a BIG success- thank you all for attending and taking the time to come in to view the student's creative Solar Systems, art work, Flat Stanley Project and postcards, Newcastle history time-lines, and so much more! I know the students are very proud of all they have accomplished, and they all did such a great job of being little "tour-guides" for the evening.
Homework will continue this week: nightly reading, math, and cursive. Make sure to check student planners for nightly assignments.
Monday, June 4th is Field Day here at school. We will begin the festivities at 9:15 with a juggling presentation, then move into field/relay games. We will finish the day with a light treat, and will be done in time for lunch.
End-of-the-Year Class Party: Thursday, June 7th. I heard there is a special treat coming!

Just a quick note to let you know that Bernhard photos are now up and posted on the website. Take a look by clicking on "Bernhard 2012" under Class Photos. Enjoy!

Hello Families!
First off, I want to say a big THANK YOU for making Teacher Appreciation week so special! Your flowers, cards, gifts and treats were just so amazing.....I can't tell you how touched I feel by your generosity and making me feel special this past week! And to top it off, it was also my B-day week and the students surprised me with more treats and a cupcake celebration on Friday! Oh- What a week! I am seriously going to hit the gym!
OK- on to business- Here are a few things happening this week in our classroom:
1. Solar System Projects- a handout when home yesterday with directions on how to build a solar system mobile. This is a very fun and creative project for the students to work on at home. Let me know if you have any questions- they are due next Thursday, May 24th for Open House.
2. Open House- is next Thursday, May 24th. There will be a Hoe-Down/ Singing out on the field starting at 5:30. Then from 7:00- 8:00 classrooms will be open for viewing.
3. Parent Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast- if you volunteered in the classroom this year, please be sure to attend next Monday morning from 7:45- 8:15 in the Ampitheater so we can recognize those parents who put in the extra time and support for our classroom.

Hello Families!
Here are a few important reminders for this week:
1. State Testing Starts Tomorrow! Last week in Communication Folders I sent home a testing schedule for the next two weeks. Please remember to have your child get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive to school on time.
Please feel free to donate a "Breakfast Brain Booster" tomorrow. Items such as fruit slices, granola bars, muffins, string cheese would be great.
2. Field Trip to Fairytale Town is this coming Monday, May 7th. We will be leaving around 8:30 and arriving back here at school around 12:30. I could use a few more parent drivers if you are willing to volunteer. So far I have Ellis, Freiberg, Grant- thank you! Mrs. Voges will also be joining us to help chaperone.
3. School pictures to be returned- if your child has not returned their picture packets, or their money, they should be returned as soon as possible. The end of the school year is fast approaching and it would be sad if a student had an outstanding fine and could not participate in all of the fun activities planned!
Class Needs: glue sticks, scissors (large and small), colored Sharpies for Art

2. CST Testing is coming too! We will be testing May 1st, 2nd and 3rd and then again the following week May 8th, 9th and 10th. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time, and gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast during these mornings.

4. Nook/Kindle or EReaders are encouraged in the classroom. Several students have asked if they could use their Nook/EReader/Kindle in the classroom. I am ok with students using them during Silent Reading-just make sure you review your own family policy regarding your child's use of the device. The school is not reponsible for any lost or damaged items from home. Students will also not be allowed to take them out to the playground.
5. Our Buddy Junior Kindergarten class has invited us to go with them to Fairytale Town in May. I will keep you posted on the date, and will send home a permission slip by the end of the month. This will require parent volunteers/drivers so let me know if you are willing to transport students when the date gets confirmed.
Class Needs: scissors (both large and small sized), colored pencils, colored sharpies, glue sticks.
Thanks for all of your support for our Third Grade Class! Let me know if you have any questions-
