Discovery Museum Visit~ Rocket Building!
A presenter from the Discovery Museum came to our classroom and we participated in a fun activity building rockets!

The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
LAST TWO WEEKS OF SCHOOL LEFT!
*Thursday, June 6th~ Touch of Understanding Assembly~ this is a two+hour assembly/activities focusing on Tolerance, Peace, Understanding and Compassion for our World.
*Monday, June 10th~ Field Day~ Students should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Sunblock is highly recommended as we will be outside ALL DAY!
*Wednesday, June 12~ End-of-the-year class party~ After lunch~ Games and Treats! Look for an email from Gia McNutt regarding donations :)
*Thursday, June 13th~ TK Buddy Goodbye Party~ Students are asked to bring in a snack to share (pretzels, chips, etc) Mrs. Doak and I will donate some popsicles for each student.
Third Grade students are also encouraged to bring in a small gift for their buddy. A small stuffed animal, bottle of Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, etc. are perfect tokens of appreciation to our TK Buddies for being such awesome friends this year.

STATE TESTING! Starting Tuesday, May 7th through Thursday, May 9th~ and then again the following week: Tuesday, May 14 through Thursday, May 16th. Please have your child get plenty of rest these next two weeks, and eat a healthy and hearty breakfast before they come to school.
*A detail testing schedule was sent home in your child's C-folder last week*
Cereal Box Book Reports are DUE tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8th. Students will be presenting their "cereal commercials" (aka: book review) to the class and I will video taping them- look for the posting of the videos by the end of this week :) This should be a fun and creative project! Simple props (cereal bowls, spoons) and easy costumes (a hat, wig, bow tie) make the commercials even better! Think creative and have fun with this one!
Field Trip with T-K Buddies to Fairy Tale Town~ is this Monday, May 13th. We will be leaving at 8:00 sharp so please have your child arrive at school on time *This is a LATE START MONDAY so make sure you come to school EARLIER than expected. We will be returning around 1:00 in the afternoon. Please make sure your child packs a sack lunch and a water bottle.
Science Project~ Will be assigned tomorrow! Look for info coming home soon! I will post directions and a flyer on this site under "Academic Links".

Hello Third Grades Families~ 4/17/13
The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
Communication Folders went home today~ please review your child's work with them, sign and date the folder, and return to school tomorrow. There have been a few students lately leaving them at home all week. Please make sure they return to school so that I may record assignments and pass back corrected work.
Field Trip with T-K Buddies to Fairy Tale Town~We had to reschedule the field trip by one day to accommodate state testing. New Date is: Monday, May 13th! This is a late-start Monday, yet students will still need to be at school at 8:00 sharp on the day of the field trip. We all need to leave no later than 8:15~please do not be late!
Bernhard Field Trip is NEXT WEEK! Friday, April 26th! Does everyone have their 1889 costume ready? Have you found a basket or tin coffee can to put you old-fashioned lunch in? Do you have a bonnet or a hat? I look forward to this trip every year~ it should be a lot of fun!

Students will not be able to come and go out of the classroom during this time. Please have your child arrive to school on time, get plenty of rest, and eat a healthy breakfast. If anyone would like to donate breakfast food items such as muffins, fruit, orange juice, string cheese, yogurts, etc. during our testing days that would be GREAT! Full bellies=smart brains! Email me with your donation item(s) and I will start a list of who is bringing what.

Hello Third Grade Families~ 4/5/13
The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
Bernhard Field Trip is coming! A flyer went home in your child's C-folder yesterday explaining costume requirements and suggestions for places to purchase or rent them. Let me know if you have any questions regarding costumes~ The field trip is Friday, April 26th.
Book Reports were assigned this week and are DUE this coming Tuesday, April 9th. The book report should reflect a book that has been recently completed by your child. Students will be presenting their book report to the class that day, and they should be able to summarize the plot of their book.
Book Orders were sent home for the month of April. Orders are DUE Tuesday, April 16th. Please feel free to either order on-line or send in the paper order with a check written out to SCHOLASTIC.
Multiplication Facts are HERE!! We have even moved into the inverse operation of multiplication and division.
Please have your child practice multiplication facts, especially 4's, 5's and 7's. There are many on-line free website like www.softschools.com that help support these skills.
SAVE THE DATE! : Thursday, May 30th is Newcastle School's Spring Concert/Open House.
Reminder: Please sign your child's math homework and student planner every night. It makes a BIG difference when students know their parents are checking in on their homework.

Hello Third Grade Families~ 3/12/13
The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
Book Fair is HERE! Yesterday, students were able to preview books and today students may return to the book fair to purchase books. Reminder~ there is a Family Night TONIGHT at the Book Fair from 5-8 pm. They will have treats, prizes, and even Clifford the Big Red Dog. Come everyone and celebrate with a new book!
And to keep the book theme going.....our classroom will be celebrating our accomplishment of EVERYONE earning their Accelerated Reading Goals this second trimester! We will be celebrating this Wednesday, March 13th by having an All-Day Reading Day! Students may bring in their backpack full of books, books to share and donate, a pillow and a blanket. We will be having reading activities throughout the day, as well as lying about with a good book and READ! READ! READ!
Pi-Day! is this Thursday, March 14 ( 3.14) We will be honoring "Pi" with some fun math center activities that we have planned with the other third grade classroom too! Should be fun!
Reminder: Spring Picture Day is this Friday, March 15th. Everyone will get their picture taken. Once you view the pictures and you would like to purchase you just return the envelope that will be attached to the actual photos. Dress nice on Friday! Smile for the camera!
Parent Conference Slips went home last Friday...and were due back yesterday! If you have not returned your confirmation slip, please do so as soon as possible, or send me a quick email :)
Parent Conferences will be next week, Wednesday and Thursday. These will be minimum days for all students. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, March 22nd.

Hello Third Grade Families~3/1/13
The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
We had a great time celebrating Read Across America Day on Friday! We all went to our T-K Buddy classroom and help them make Thing 1 and Thing 2 hair (in tribute to Dr. Seuss)
Science Project Open House was a HUGE success! The projects that the students created are amazing! It is great to see all of the individual talents and creativity. Thank you for attending- pictures of the event are posted under "More" and then "class photos" at the top of the web page.
Book Fair is coming! Next Monday, March 11th we will be able to go to the Book Fair to preview all of the available items. Then Tuesday, March 12th we will go back again to purchase.
Math Facts: Please have your child study their multiplication facts at least five minutes a night. We are currently working on x7's and x9's. The fourth grade teachers cannot stress enough how important it is to have those multiplication facts memorized before fourth grade!
A big THANK YOU to Mrs. McNutt for coming in last Monday to teach an Art Docent lesson on "Artists Create Movement"- we created a mural of dancing, tumbling, flying silhouettes that we have displayed in our classroom.

Happy Valentine's Day!
The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
1. Science Projects: So how are they going?? The students have been talking about them in class, and I am looking forward to seeing the finished projects. Both third grades are planning on having an "Science Share" where we will open our doors and welcome you to come in and view everyone's work. Date and time: TBA
2.Open Lab Time: Don't forget that Newcastle School's Computer Lab is now open Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2:15-3:00. It is also open Tues-Friday mornings from 7:30-7:55 (first bell). This is a great opportunity to finish projects, work on math skills, type up spelling sentences...take advantage of our technology!
3. Math Facts: Please have your child study their multiplication math facts at least 5 minutes a night. We are currently working on x5's and x7's. The fourth grade teachers cannot stress enough how important it is to have those multiplication facts memorized before fourth grade!
4.Flat Stanley: We continue to receive postcards each week~ we even received one from Korea! Students chart Flat Stanley's adventures in their book here at school, and then postcards are hung in the hallway for all to see. Come check them out!
5. Valentine's Day Party~ Thursday the 14th we will be celebrating V-Day with BINGO, a simple craft, and snacks from 1:00-2:00. Students are welcome to bring in Valentines cards (store bought is OK) and a handout went home last week regarding a "Valentine Container Challenge"~ students were given an second copy today if needed.

It's February already!
The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
Our class received "Nutty the Knight" this week during a Student of the Month assembly! We received the award for excellent behavior and attention to the assembly speaker. We will keep "Nutty" in our classroom for the whole month.
Science Projects are under way! I've already received a few 2 point projects..great job so far! I sent home with students two rubrics regarding the Documentary and the Powerpoint Presentations. Look them over and review them with your child if they are planning on completing either of these projects.
Computer Lab Schedule- the school computer lab is open to all students Tuesday through Friday mornings from 7:30- 7:55 (first bell rings) It is also open to all students on Monday and Wednesday afterschool from 2:15-3:00. This is a great resourse to complete the above mentioned Science Projects. Students can bring their flash drives to the lab, work on their Powerpoint, a Biome Brochure, type up an Animal Acrostic poem, or create their Animal Trading Cards. Take advantage of the school's open lab and tech support! It's free!
Valentine's Day is fast approaching! We will be celebrating on Thursday, February 14th in the afternoon. I will send home a letter next week in student's C-folder with a class list of names. I ask that if your child does want to pass out Valentine's Cards they include everyone in our class. Our room parent, Gia McNutt will be calling to ask for donations of treats and snacks. Come join us if you can!

Pennies for Del Oro Pool~ bring in your loose change to help support our local high school. All classes at Newcastle School have a donation box to collect money over the next two weeks.
Thank you for reminding your child to return their library book and signed Reading Log Friday! We had 100% participation on the reading log, and only one child forgot their book! Good job!
Class Needs: rulers (inches and centimeters), anti-bacterial hand gel (can you guess why?) student scissors

Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday~ what a glorious morning!
The following is a few thing happening in our classroom this week:
1.Accelerated Reading Levels will be given to students tomorrow during class. We were able to take the "new" STAR Reading Test Friday which then gives each student their grade equivalent, reading range, weekly point goals, and trimester point goals. Look for a handout to be coming home tomorrow with your child.
2. SpellingCity.com is a great place to find our weekly spelling words, take practice tests, play spelling games, and also have students TYPE UP their spelling sentences. You are welcome to use this site and print out your child's spelling sentences to turn in each week.
3.Collaboration Day is this Wednesday. Students will be dismissed at 12:10.

The following is a few things happening in our classroom this week:
1. Holiday Show is this Wednesday, December 19th. Starting at 5:15, Santa will be in the gym for kids to come say hello, and take photos, and treats and drinks will also be for sale. Come early to meet Santa and get a good seat!
The actual Holiday Show will start at 6:00. Please have you child meet me up at the classroom at 5:55. Remember~ students are asked to wear pajamas (and a Santa hat would also be fun!) as their costume for the performance.
2. Gingerbread House making will be a part of our classroom holiday celebration this coming Friday, December 21st. We will start after recess at 10:30~ come join in the fun!
Reminders: Friday is a MINIMUM DAY~ students will be dismissed at 12:10 (with Gingerbread Houses, and other projects to take home for the holidays)
Thank you~ for all of your donations for the Gingerbread Houses! I think we have everything we need at this point. If you would like to donate a healthy treat or snack for the students to munch on while they build that would be great! Email me just to let me know what might be coming our way :)
A BIG thank you to Dylan's mom, Brandi, for coming in as our Garden Docent and having the students create pinecone bird feeders. Thank you to the Schweig family for the donation of paper plates~ we certainly can use them this time of year with all of our celebrations and projects.

Hello Third Grade Families! 12/ 7/12
The following is a few things happening here in our classroom this week:
1. Book Reports- assigned last week and are due back Wednesday, December 12th. Remember that there is an oral presentation component, as well as the actual project. Book reports should reflect a book that has been recently completed by your child.
2. Gingerbread Houses- a flyer went home last week regarding the making of Gingerbread Houses as part of our classroom holiday celebration. Please have your child bring in at least one package (not the whole box) of graham crackers, one tub of pre-made icing, and any candies, sprinkles, cereal, etc. they would like to use to decorate. We will be building houses Thursday, December 13th, and then decorating Friday, December 21st as part of our holiday celebration.
3. Book Orders- were sent home last week and are due on Friday, December 7th. Please let me know if your order is a "surprise" holiday gift for your child and I can hold your order aside until you are ready to pick it up. Orders will arrive before the holiday break- think stocking stuffers! :)
4. Holiday Program- is fast approaching! Wednesday, December 19th. Mrs. Dees, our music teacher, is asking students to wear their pajamas as part of their performance. Students have been practicing in class and are very exciting to show off their singing talents.....mark your calendars it should be a great evening!

Hello Third Grade Families!
Here are a few things happening this week in our classroom:
1.Flat Stanleys have arrived! Students are required to bring in three addresses of friends or family members that they can write to over the next few weeks. Students have created their own Flat Stanley and we will be sending him off in the mail this Friday.
2. Canned Food Drive- please have your child bring in one or two non-perishable food items for our school wide "Kids Can" food drive- ends this Friday, November 16th.
3. Thanksgiving Feast with our T-K Buddies- this Friday! Our little TK buddies will be serving us a "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving"- toast, popcorn, sugar-free jelly beans, pretzels and chips are on the menu! I'm sure this will be a special gathering and I will post pictures during our break.
A few reminders:

* Reading Logs (signed) are due Fridays

Hello Third Grade Families!
Here are a few things happening in our classroom this week:
1. KIds on the Block Presentation- this Monday after lunch. This is a presentation put on by the Assistance League of Auburn promoting friendship and compassion.
2.Native American Projects and Open House- due this Wednesday, November 7th. All parents are welcome to come in and view projects from 8:15-8:45. If you need to assist your child in bringing in their project in the am that is fine. From 8-8:15 our class will need a few minutes to prepare our classroom and displays.
3. All-Day Reading Day!- Thursday, November 8th- Students are welcome to bring in a pillow, blanket and their backpacks full of books. We will celebrate reading by devoting the school day to activities centered around books. We will have guest readers, participate in a book swap, and read, read, read! This is a great time to clean out those bookcases at home and bring in any type of books or magazines your family does not need. Students can take book quizzes throughout the day to earn their Accelerated Reading trimester goal.
Parent Conferences: An email went out Friday regarding families dates and times. Please send me back on email to confirm or change your conference. Conferences dates are November 27, 28 and 29th- these days will also be minimum days for students with a dismissal of 12:10.
Class Needs: fake fall leaves, fall stickers, small fall objects to put on wreaths that we will be making with our TK Buddies this coming Friday.
Notes: * Please remember to sign or initial your child's student planner each night. Homework as well as weekly reminders are noted by your child each day. Students are very proud and keep their planners neat and organized when they know that their parents are going to take a look at their notes!
A BIG thank you to all of the parents that helped make our class Halloween Party a HUGE success! Mrs. McNutt, Mrs. Todd, and Mrs. Nitta for the sandwiches, lemonade, jello jigglers and chips, Mrs. Bloomfield and Ms. Murphy for baking and donating cookies and all the decorating goodies for the cookie decorating station, the Hopp family for creating duck-tape goodie bags, and Mrs. Njoes for also donating generous and creative goodie bags too! The class took home many treats!

Hello Third Grade Families!
The following is a few reminders for our classroom:
1. Keep working on those Native American Replica Projects!
Due date: Wednesday, November 8th! Our "Open House" time has changed to 8:15-8:30 on the 8th. We realized parking might have been as issue in the afternoon with the car pick-up line, so time has changed to the morning. Hopefully this makes it easier to help your child carry in their project to class, and then stay to view all of the student's projects.
2. Our T-K Buddies are coming to our class this Friday, October 26th to "trick-or-treat" at our desks. Please have your child bring in 19 small items such as stickers, pencils, balloons, gently used toys or trinkets to give to our buddies (please no candy). Our Buddies are learning their colors and students in my class picked one color of the rainbow to collect "treats" and distribute to our buddy class. Ask your child which color they chose :)
3. Red Ribbon Week is October 22-26th. Student were given a "Pledge to be Drug Free" red bracelet to wear all week to school. On Tuesday, October 23rd we will be attending an assembly.
Halloween Festivities: Costume parade in the morning, followed by a dance performance and frisbee game on the upper grade field. Our class party will be from 10:30- 12:00- please come and help out!
October 31st is a Collaboration Day so students will be dismissed at 12:10.
Class Needs: A box of large garbage bags, prizes for Bingo during our Halloween Party.

Hello Third Grade Families!
The following is a few reminders for our classroom:
1. Field Trip to Effie Yeaw Nature Center TOMORROW!
Please make sure your child dresses accordingly for a day of outdoor fun! Don't forget those lunches and water bottles! :)
2. Powerpoints:
We are busy here in the computer lab creating and finishing our Powerpoints on various California Native American tribes. Powerpoints will be displayed during our "Native American Open House" on Wednesday, November 7th from 1:45-2:15. All are welcome to attend!
3. Native American Replicas- instructions have been send home regarding the construction of a Native American Replica. Please let me know if you need another copy....replicas, along with Powerpoints, will be displayed during the Native American Open House.
Class Needs: A box of large trash bags-
Still in need of a parent volunteer(s) who would like to be our Garden Docent. The garden bed has been weeded, and new soil put in ready for a winter veggie garden...anyone? :)

Hello Third Grade Families!
I hope you are all enjoying the start of your Fall Break! I posted a few new photos on the website. Look under "more" at the top of the page, and then "Class Photos" should appear. Check out the pictures of our Effie Yeaw class presentation and our T-K Buddies.
The following is a few reminders for our classroom:
1. Dictionaries- Each student received a dictionary from the Assistance League of Auburn. Students will be keeping these in the classroom for a few weeks so they may learn some dictionary skills. After that they will be instructed to take them home. Thank you Assistance League!
2. Native American projects will be due Wednesday, November 7th.
Mark you calendars because we will have a "Native American Open House" from 1:45-2:15 that day so all parents may come in to look at everyone's projects. A flyer regarding building the project was sent home September 19th in your child's C-Folder. Let me know if you have any questions-
3. Effie Yeaw Field Trip- Friday, October 12th. Make sure your child is dressed for a full day of outdoor fun! Pack a lunch and a water bottle too!
4. Art Docent Lesson- Tuesday, October 9th. This is our first presentation, and I am looking forward to the creative process. Thank you Michele Njoes and Gia McNutt for leadership in this art program.
Class Needs:
Parent volunteer(s) to be our class Garden Docent. We are in need of a parent (or two) who would like to take small groups of students to the garden (possibly every other Friday from 9:30-10:00) and work on garden projects, build a Fall scarecrow, make birdhouses, or even spruce up other garden areas of the school. Hello Third Grade Families!
The following is a few reminders for our classroom:
1. Morning Assignment Slips- get sent home on Fridays. These are small charts that are placed on student's desk on Mondays, and they keep them on their desk all week. Students then "chart" their morning work as they complete it throughout the week.
Please sign these charts sometime during the weekend and have your child return on Monday.
2. Accelerated Math is up and running! Students took a STAR Math quiz last Friday which placed them in the program. Each student received an individualized packet today to work on. A letter explaining their placement will be sent home tomorrow in their C-folder.
3. Accelerated Reading has been up and running for a few weeks now. Students should be reading chapter books at home, bringing the book(s) to school to read, finishing the book and taking an AR Quiz. Ask your child if they have taken a quiz lately :)
4. Book Report! Our first one for the school year! Students received a handout with directions on how to complete a "Quilted" Book Report. This report should be done on a book that they have currently finished (or close to finishing). Think creative and fun while completing this report! Use fabric, glitter, yarn or anything else in your stash. The students seemed excited about it in class today!
5. Tomorrow is a Collaboration Day- students will be excused at 12:10
Looking ahead- Next month will be our first celebration- Halloween! Please keep an eye out for donations for our celebration such as paper plates, cups, napkins, treats, craft project supplies-more to come soon!

Hello Third Grade Families!
We have had a busy first few weeks of school! Homework has officially started, as well as computer lab, library, PE, Music, and Rhythm and Movement. Below are a few important reminders for this next week:
1. Books Orders are due this Friday, September 14th- thank you to all of you that have ordered so far! Remember that for every order placed our classroom receives at least one free book.
2. Picture Day is this Friday, September 14th! Get those outfits and haircuts ready! SMILE!
3. A big THANK YOU goes out to Mrs. Njoes who planned and donated all the supplies for our Salt-dough California maps. They look fabulous! We will hang them in the hallway soon so come later this week to take a peek.
4. Spelling words are up on SpellingCity.com- please use this website to study for spelling tests, play word games, and look up word definitions.
5. Reminder: please initial your child's Student Planner each night. This is an easy daily communication between parent/teacher. I will initial each day and check to make sure your child's planner is neat and readable. We even talked today in class about making "check-off" boxes next to each homework item so students could check each box when homework is complete- building responsibility!
6. Reading Logs and Library Books are due on Friday! Please don't forget to sign those Reading Logs- they are also an important communication between home and school- and students will read more knowing their parents are supportive of our Accelerated Reading program.

Hello Third Grade Families!
The weekly schedule of events here at school has officially started and students will visit the library to check out books tomorrow. They are required to check out two chapter books at their reading range. At this moment there are still "glitches" in the Star Reading Test so official "ranges" have not been established- students will try their best to get an appropriate reading level book.
Our first official spelling test for the school year will take place tomorrow! Please have your child practice their words and study for the test tomorrow. You could use SpellingCity.com as a great learning resource.
Red C-folders went home yesterday as part of student's homework. Thank you for signing them and returning them to me today! If you have not returned your child's C-Folder please do so by tomorrow.
Field Trip Slips to Effie Yeaw Nature Center were sent home at Back to School Night- extras were sent home in C-Folders yesterday. Please take a moment and fill out the permission slip and return slip with $22.00 payment. All permission slips and payment are due tomorrow.

Hello Third Grade Families!
We had a busy first full week here in our classroom. Students were given their Language Arts books and we read our first story Lost and Found. Ask your child "What happens when you get lost in the lost and found?"
Back to School Night is this Tuesday, August 28th. The fun begins at 6:15 in the Amphitheater and then we will move into the classroom for our first discussion from 6:30- 7:00. We will be discussing homework, C-Folders, an coming Field Trip, volunteer opportunities, and more! I hope to see all of you there-

Hello Third Grade Families!
We had a great first two days of school, and it was fun meeting all of my new students and their families. Thank you for coming in and introducing yourself, and if I didn't get a chance yet to meet you we have another opportunity at Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 28th. The fun begins in the school amphitheater at 6:15 with an quick intro of the teachers. Our first discussion session will start at 6:30- 7:00, and then a second session will start at 7:00- 7:30 in case you have more than one student here at our school.

We are in need of a parent (or two) who would like to take small groups of students to the garden (possibly every other Friday from 9:30-10:00) and work on garden projects, build a Fall scarecrow, make birdhouses, or even spruce up other garden areas of the school. Hello Third Grade Families!
The following is a few reminders for our classroom:
1. Morning Assignment Slips- get sent home on Fridays. These are small charts that are placed on student's desk on Mondays, and they keep them on their desk all week. Students then "chart" their morning work as they complete it throughout the week.
Please sign these charts sometime during the weekend and have your child return on Monday.
2. Accelerated Math is up and running! Students took a STAR Math quiz last Friday which placed them in the program. Each student received an individualized packet today to work on. A letter explaining their placement will be sent home tomorrow in their C-folder.
3. Accelerated Reading has been up and running for a few weeks now. Students should be reading chapter books at home, bringing the book(s) to school to read, finishing the book and taking an AR Quiz. Ask your child if they have taken a quiz lately :)
4. Book Report! Our first one for the school year! Students received a handout with directions on how to complete a "Quilted" Book Report. This report should be done on a book that they have currently finished (or close to finishing). Think creative and fun while completing this report! Use fabric, glitter, yarn or anything else in your stash. The students seemed excited about it in class today!
5. Tomorrow is a Collaboration Day- students will be excused at 12:10
Looking ahead- Next month will be our first celebration- Halloween! Please keep an eye out for donations for our celebration such as paper plates, cups, napkins, treats, craft project supplies-more to come soon!

Hello Third Grade Families!
We have had a busy first few weeks of school! Homework has officially started, as well as computer lab, library, PE, Music, and Rhythm and Movement. Below are a few important reminders for this next week:
1. Books Orders are due this Friday, September 14th- thank you to all of you that have ordered so far! Remember that for every order placed our classroom receives at least one free book.
2. Picture Day is this Friday, September 14th! Get those outfits and haircuts ready! SMILE!
3. A big THANK YOU goes out to Mrs. Njoes who planned and donated all the supplies for our Salt-dough California maps. They look fabulous! We will hang them in the hallway soon so come later this week to take a peek.
4. Spelling words are up on SpellingCity.com- please use this website to study for spelling tests, play word games, and look up word definitions.
5. Reminder: please initial your child's Student Planner each night. This is an easy daily communication between parent/teacher. I will initial each day and check to make sure your child's planner is neat and readable. We even talked today in class about making "check-off" boxes next to each homework item so students could check each box when homework is complete- building responsibility!
6. Reading Logs and Library Books are due on Friday! Please don't forget to sign those Reading Logs- they are also an important communication between home and school- and students will read more knowing their parents are supportive of our Accelerated Reading program.

Hello Third Grade Families!
The weekly schedule of events here at school has officially started and students will visit the library to check out books tomorrow. They are required to check out two chapter books at their reading range. At this moment there are still "glitches" in the Star Reading Test so official "ranges" have not been established- students will try their best to get an appropriate reading level book.
Our first official spelling test for the school year will take place tomorrow! Please have your child practice their words and study for the test tomorrow. You could use SpellingCity.com as a great learning resource.
Red C-folders went home yesterday as part of student's homework. Thank you for signing them and returning them to me today! If you have not returned your child's C-Folder please do so by tomorrow.
Field Trip Slips to Effie Yeaw Nature Center were sent home at Back to School Night- extras were sent home in C-Folders yesterday. Please take a moment and fill out the permission slip and return slip with $22.00 payment. All permission slips and payment are due tomorrow.

Hello Third Grade Families!
We had a busy first full week here in our classroom. Students were given their Language Arts books and we read our first story Lost and Found. Ask your child "What happens when you get lost in the lost and found?"
Back to School Night is this Tuesday, August 28th. The fun begins at 6:15 in the Amphitheater and then we will move into the classroom for our first discussion from 6:30- 7:00. We will be discussing homework, C-Folders, an coming Field Trip, volunteer opportunities, and more! I hope to see all of you there-

Hello Third Grade Families!
We had a great first two days of school, and it was fun meeting all of my new students and their families. Thank you for coming in and introducing yourself, and if I didn't get a chance yet to meet you we have another opportunity at Back to School Night on Tuesday, August 28th. The fun begins in the school amphitheater at 6:15 with an quick intro of the teachers. Our first discussion session will start at 6:30- 7:00, and then a second session will start at 7:00- 7:30 in case you have more than one student here at our school.
Thank you sooo much for all of your generous donations of copy paper, notebook paper, pencils, tisssue boxes, classroom balls! Your donations are truly appreciated!
